I am now turning my thinking toward a modified Stanley screamer. The 416's with 604-8H's. Now back to the choice of cabinet...
vott: That second pic is spot on. Thanks very much.
bowtie: glad to hear you like them. Even after David Lee passed away a year ago [or so] and they closed shop, the rest of the gang recruited the original owner Tom to start it back up again. They've always been good to me and yes I believe you are right about their quality and them sourcing the right parts.

i would start by at least doubleing the woofers
"those sounds to which no definite pitch can be assigned are usually classified as noise"<br />harvey fletcher-1928
I have some thumper Selenium woofers I could use. Two of them and a 604? XO at about 100Hz 24dB?

Cal, I bet if you ask real nice and GM is interested in finding a solution, maybe he'd model a TL or MLTL for your 416's. I have no experience with that woofer so can't say if it's good bad, or ugly but it's an Altec of 15" so it has to be fairly good.
I am still amazed at the effortless low end of the MLTL cabinet. The stock cab with 416b has that West coast bump around 100hz, not objectionable to me and great for rock. The MLTL reaches much lower, the bump is gone, and the roll off is one of the best on the lower end. I haven't measured the response, yet, because I feel no pressing need. It's actually difficult to find tracks that challenge the lower end of the MLTL. It was shocking when I first heard it and still is a treat.
Good luck on whatever you choose, it's Altec so it is going to be good.
Hi westend,
I agree that it will be a good project in the end. I am still up in the air as to what to do so I'm just going to sit on it for now.
I have recruited Mr. M on another forum. He has been invaluable in the past and continues to be for so many things.

Where? I must have either missed it or forgot to make a note of it.

I prefer a center sub, as having two can result in phase cancellations...there was a 927 on FeePay recently...didn't sell seller might still have... has a .35 inch xMax. Rare bird deserves a nice home....
